LOCATION
Sherman is situated in the northern portion of Texas, approximately 45 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area. Sherman straddles the US 75 corridor, which links it to the Metroplex and its proximity affords reasonably short travel times between Sherman and the Metroplex markets via highway, rail, and air.

Sherman is the largest city within Grayson County and accounts for almost 33% of the county’s total population of 120,870. Sherman’s population is 38,500. The importance of Sherman as a center of governmental, institutional and financial activity is directly related to its designation as the Grayson County Seat, its central location within the county, and its relationship to the US 75 corridor.

Sherman draws from a labor pool of 250,000 employees concentrated in a six county contiguous area. The Sherman/Denison MSA has the highest number of industrial jobs per capita of any MSA in Texas with approximately 12% of the work force engaged in manufacturing. Major employers include Texas Instruments, Kaiser Aluminum, Tyson Foods and Emerson Processing–Fisher Controls. The current unemployment figure for the area is 8.5%.  Sherman  City tax rate is one of the lowest in State for comparable sized cities = $0.32/per $100 assessed valuation

Three key highways serve Sherman, which include US 75 (north to south), US 82 (east to west), and FM 1417.

Aside from the state incentives, local economic development incentives include aggressive financial assistance, Quadruple Freeport Tax Exemption (City, County, College, SISD), access to the Governor’s Texas Enterprise Fund and Emerging Technology Fund, as well as attractive training grants.
